At Hythe and Folkestone Roofers, we are committed to using the latest technology to deliver accurate and efficient roofing assessments. Our professional drone survey service allows us to inspect your roof safely and thoroughly without the need for scaffolding or ladders. This modern approach not only saves time but also provides a comprehensive view of hard-to-reach areas that would otherwise be difficult to assess.

Using high-resolution cameras and advanced drone technology, we capture detailed images and videos of your roof, identifying issues such as leaks, damaged tiles and structural wear. Our team then carefully analyses the data to create a detailed report, highlighting any areas that may require maintenance or repairs.

This innovative service is ideal for both residential and commercial properties, offering a safe and efficient way to monitor the condition of your roof.

  • No scaffold to hire and no ladders on the house
  • A photograph and video report that you keep
  • Valleys, ridges and flashing you cannot see from the ground
  • Suitable for both homes and commercial premises

What a survey shows you

The drone flies the whole roof and photographs it slope by slope, including the parts no ladder reaches and nobody can see from the ground: the far side of a ridge, the back of a chimney stack, valleys between roofs, and flat areas sitting behind a parapet.

You get the images and the video, and a written note of what we found and what, if anything, we would do about it. That is yours to keep whether or not you have the work done, which also makes it a useful thing to have when you are comparing quotes.

When a drone is the right tool

Not every roof needs one. It earns its place when getting a person up there is slow, expensive or risky.

  • Before buying a house, when the survey says the roof needs further investigation
  • For an insurance claim, where dated photographs of the damage matter
  • On a steep, high or fragile roof where a ladder inspection would need scaffolding first
  • On a commercial or industrial roof simply too large to walk in an afternoon
  • When you have a quote you are unsure about and want to see the roof for yourself

What it does not replace

A camera sees the surface. It will not tell you the state of the timbers, whether the underlay has perished, or whether the ventilation is adequate, and all three need someone in the loft or the roof opened up.

We would rather say that than sell a survey as more than it is. In practice a drone flight plus twenty minutes in the loft answers almost everything worth knowing about a domestic roof.

What a roof inspection covers

Whether it is done from the drone, from a ladder or both, a proper inspection works through the whole roof in order rather than looking only where the water showed up.

  • Every slope, for slipped, cracked or missing tiles and slates
  • The ridge and hips, for loose tiles and failed bedding
  • Valleys, where two slopes meet and the water from both runs
  • Chimney stacks, pots, flaunching and the lead around them
  • Gutters, downpipes, fascias and the bottom row of tiles behind them
  • Flat roofs, parapets and box gutters
  • The loft: underlay, timbers, insulation, ventilation and any sign of water

Surveys for buyers and sellers

A homebuyer's survey will often say the roof needs further investigation by a roofer, and stop there. That is where a roof survey earns its keep: photographs of every slope and the chimney tops, a look at the underside from the loft, and a plain account of what is wrong and what it would cost to put right, which is something you can take back to the seller.

Selling works the other way round. A recent note on the state of the roof answers the question a buyer's surveyor would otherwise leave hanging, before it turns into a reason to renegotiate.
